I’ve had some real misgivings about the modern labour party, its leadership and the general direction of travel.
As a party member I voted for Keir Starmer precisely because he’s a human rights lawyer. It’s no coincidence that this blog and channel has been so silent for so long as I’ve found myself unable to understand how human rights and compassion fit into some of the decisions taken by the party in opposition.
But today I’m beginning to be reassured. There are many things Sir Keir could have prioritised this week, this month or even this quarter.
Choosing to stop the flights to Rwanda bodes extremely well in my book.
Like so many other past and present party members I’ll be watching with interest. Labour has such a massive majority that the party can pass whatever it wants in the house. Just like the tories over most of the last fourteen and a half years, it can do what it likes.
The tories chose self-serving, nest-feathering exploitation and the rape of our economy for personal profit. That’ll take some time to repair but, over time, I expect great things from Labour.
There will be interesting times ahead!
